🏆Cannabis in Recovery Success Story
🗣”Cannabis keeps me alive.” My story is probably very similar to some others. I hope my story can be a source of hope and inspiration to others struggling.
I grew up in an abusive home and began drinking and using drugs starting at age 14. I began experimenting with inhalants, psychedelics, cannabis, pharmaceuticals and alcohol. My frequent using of these substances to escape life led to having a real addiction problem to cocaine and alcohol.
During a point in my marriage, my wife and I began having problems due to my drinking and cocaine abuse. My wife started going to Al-Anon meetings to cope with my addictions and to try to begin healing our relationship. I tried Alcoholics Anonymous many times, but concluded that the 12-Step model does not work for me. I began looking for alternatives such as harm-reduction therapy, more specifically, using medical cannabis as a replacement for dangerous drugs and to aide my mental health. So, I decided to try marijuana maintenance by getting my medical cannabis card.
Soon after, I went through some very serious surgeries. I decided to use the prescribed narcotics the doctor recommended, but using cannabis as a supplement enabled me to take them as directed and not abuse them. However, my sobriety is far from perfect, as I have slipped a few times, yet, cannabis has allowed me to not spiral out of control and return back to a healthy place quickly.
Getting my medical cannabis card was a lifesaver for me. My wife is very happy and proud of my decision and strength to use a safer way of controlling my physical and emotional pain. All of my doctors, surgeons and psychiatrist are aware of my cannabis use and are supportive about my choice. Cannabis helps me in so many ways, and I believe I would not be here without it today. ©️MMRC All Rights Reserved.
