1. Revisit (or create) your budget- Budgets are dynamic and should be reviewed often. Priorities shift, goals change, income fluctuates...all many reasons to keep a close eye on your budget to make sure it is always reflective of the now.โ € โ € 2. Review your auto pay setup- This is important because you want to make sure your due dates are still aligned, your accounts are still current, your rates are still competitive, and the services are still needed.โ € โ € 3. Review subscriptions- Don't forget about these! Sometimes our needs change and what was once important and heavily used is no longer needed. For example, if your gym is closed until further notice then this may be a good subscription to cancel.โ € โ € 4. Price shop current providers- Review your current rates with your current providers and make sure they are still comparable. Don't be afraid to price shop and switch when necessary, you could save yourself hundreds or more a year all just from doing a little research.โ € โ € 5. Consider cheaper/ free alternatives- If your an avid reader consider a library membership instead of an audio subscription. Consider cutting the cord (cable) and replacing with cheaper streaming services.โ € โ €debthelp debtelimination millennialmoney financialeducation financialexpert debthelp budgetlife moneygoals budgetliving frugalliving financialfreedom moneysavingtips financeblogger debtfreegoals debtfreeliving debtpayoff daveramseybabysteps daveramsey livingonabudget debtfreejourney debtisdumb debtfreedom zerobasedbudget budgetlife totalmoneymakeover debtfreecommunity debtfreejourney debtfree budget budgeting

Our Wednesday budgeting tip is also a tax tip. If you've applied for (or will be applying for) the Canadian Emergency Response Benefit, you should know that you will not be taxed at source. โšซ What does this mean? It means that you will eventually owe tax for this income when you file your 2020 income tax return. If you are typically used to receiving an income tax refund this may decrease what you receive at tax time next year. If you are accustomed to "breaking even" or owing money on your tax return, this will increase your amount owing to Canada Revenue Agency. โšซ While it may be hard on your budget to set aside money during the pandemic, if you are in a position to do so, you could set aside the tax you will owe for this income in a TFSA or savings account or add a little extra to your RRSP savings. If you cannot afford to do this, it's important to be aware of how this will impact you in 2021 and try to catch up later in the year when you return to work or have an opportunity to top up your RRSP contributions for the 2020 tax year. โšซ If you are self-employed this is very important information to consider, especially if you've already got an outstanding bill to CRA for unpaid income taxes. Please feel free to contact us if you need help with tax debt. โšซ taxtips cerb benefit taxtip taxhelp debthelp brieftrustee debtfreeplanning debtfree canada cra incometax emergencyfunds budgeting budgetingtips dfc debtfreecommunity debtfreecanada Wednesday WednesdayWisdom

Deferring your payment in most cases does not mean forgiving your payment. You are still responsible for the debt and the interest related to it. Deferring a payment and paying nothing will often mean that your interest is accumulating interest on top of it each month. This is going to make those debts even tough to pay off down the road. I get that many Canadians are hurting financially right now and that deferring payments may be the best option. It is definitely better than bankruptcy or foreclosure. Just be aware of the true costs in doing so (ask them to show you) and explore all the options available to you. If you happen to still be working or working more, use some of that extra money to pay down debts quicker during this time while interest rates are low. Your Excuse is My Reason. Remember, there is always someone has got it better than you and all those who have it worse... . . Adversity brings out the best in us but we always DECIDE the end result & if we are the VICTOR or the VICTIM. Don't let my strong language confuse you, these next few months won't be easy, but you will be OK... . . Before the age of 14, I experienced over 12 relocations, 4 schools, a nasty divorce, a mom with financial issues, a father who was dealing with personal issues, & poor performance in school. Luckily my mom held it together and was the STRONGEST person I ever knew. Then at 50 she was diagnosed with cancer and lost her battle at 51. I share this because there are SO MANY times I want to feel bad for myself because of my past, but I have always used CIRCUMSTANCES out of my control as the reason to DO BETTER... . . ๐Ÿ‘‰ When all my friends got new cars and I bought my own, I said you will be better for this.. ๐Ÿ‘‰ When I weighed 110 pounds and got crushed in football, I said I will make sure I excel in wrestling and prove others wrong. ๐Ÿ‘‰ When my high school counselor said I wasn't a "Good Student" I used her voice to motivate me.. ๐Ÿ‘‰ And when people said you can't pay off $250,000 in student loans I said watch us! . . [FOR YOU READING THIS]: ๐Ÿ‘‰ When you come up against your next obstacle, you will always let it be your Reason instead of your excuse... because you got this! . ๐Ÿ‘‰ The next time you think you can't work on your sidehustles you will remind yourself WHY you are doing it in the first place! . ๐Ÿ‘‰ When you go to make an excuse about working out, you will make it the REASON you do the workout! . ๐Ÿ‘‰ And lastly, when the times are tough, you will remember that "This to shall pass" . . . Remember the EXCUSE VS REASON rule and follow @moneylifewax for lifetips101 and debthelp
