Interesting day in the market. I was trying to get 10 contracts for the bottom Put Spread but only 4 filled before the run. So went a little risky and got 5 more at a higher strike price. The 2620/2615 is a Put debit spread that expires tomorrow. Might turn out to be a losing trade unless the SPX takes a dump tomorrow 🤞 Overall I'll still be profitable. Which one should you do? Although we haven't officially reached the point of a full-blown recession quite yet, it's good to be prepared for the inevitable downturn that's beginning to unfold. My recommendation is always to have an emergency fund of 3-6 months' expenses. After that is taken care-of, if you can stomach a bit of risk, experimenting in the market with a couple hundred dollars or however much you're willing to lose can't hurt. When markets are volatile like this, you can make money on the upswing and downswing if you know what you're doing. 90% of investors lose money regardless, even those that do it every day in their careers. It's impossible to time the market, so you shouldn't risk a large amount of money trying. Loss of income is also an unfortunate reality for many people right now due to the slowdown of economic activity, so having more cash right now is not such a bad idea. Bottom-line: Invest at your own risk but be careful not to play with more than you can afford to lose. “Be fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful." - Warren Buffett

The past is where you learned the lesson. The future is where you apply the lesson. I shared my future goals but here is some insight into my past 👇 . I have made a lot of mistakes over the years but that all changed in 2017 when I decided that I needed to change. I didn’t want to be broke anymore! I wanted to work towards financial independence so that I could live a simple and satisfying life. I didn’t want to follow the steps that my parents took, which was living paycheck to paycheck and “retiring” at 62+. That is the life of most normal people if they even get to retire at all. I made a choice to take action and control what I could to start creating the life I want. . What was your "why" moment? What got you fired up to change something in your life? . 2011: Graduated college with a Bachelor’s of Biology and $50K in student loans. Started work in Quality Assurance. 2014: Switched companies for a promotion. Got a 32% pay increase. 2015: Switched companies for another promotion. Got a 30% pay increase. 2016: Got married and decided to start an MBA program. Added $10K in student loans 2017: Stopped the MBA program. Started debt free journey with $110K total debt. 2018: Relocated and got a 40% pay increase. Finished off Credit Cards, Car Loan, and personal loans! 2019: Graduated with Bachelor’s of Supply Chain Management. 2020. Hoping this Coronavirus Pandemic ends quickly and to be debt free! . . A question that people ask a lot during a recession is whether they should start investing. Is this something that you have thought about too? Investing is something that I find isn’t widely talked about, and lots of people think that you need a lot of money to invest - but that’s not true at all! I wish someone had sat me down at a young age and explained investing to me and why I should be doing it. In fact, I wish that someone had done it at any point! I’ve never had anyone tell me to invest 🤣. But why am I investing? Because I’ve put in the work and done the research. I’ve figured out my long term goals and what I need to do in order to get there. I’m no investing expert but I do know that you shouldn’t time the market - it’s the time IN the market that counts. If you try and time it, you’re just putting it off. & if you are truly trying to time it then you will need to buy at the exact right moment and then sell at the exact right moment. Pretty difficult to do! I actually got my partner to open up an investment account today ☺️ I’ve been bugging him to get one for a while and he’s finally taken the leap! We agreed to do this as a joint decision for our future life goals. This is all for our future! Do you invest? Do you want to start? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below! ❤️

I got a gigantic tax refund and it’s not because I’m an idiot who doesn’t understand how taxes work. # One of the ways I keep a high savings rate is to create artificial scarcity in the budget. Moving money to savings automatically is one way to do that. Jacking up our tax withholding is another way. When your paycheck is smaller, you feel less like spending money. # I know I could have more money in each paycheck. I knoooow. I like getting a big lump sum to invest. I like knowing for sure I’m not going to owe. I don’t need your lecture about free loans to the government, Chad. I know how math works. # Last year our taxes were a little more complex than normal. I had a one time, one off bonus of around $40k right at the end of the year. We own a rental property that’s roughly break even but because of the bonus, I made too much money to take the usual tax loss on it. And I had yoga teaching income coming in that didn’t have taxes taken out. Given all of that, I was like let’s just increase our withholdings and sort it out next year. # Anyways. Reposting this headline and my joke because it still made me laugh. Our actual refund in the second photo. Yes that’s a ridiculous amount, even for someone who is trying to get a big refund. Yes I’m happy it came now. No I don’t wish I’d had an extra $1,000 a month last year instead. # Yes I also get that it’s a weird time to be talking about windfalls and bonuses. This is the reality of my financial life right now, but if this content doesn’t serve you, I’m not offended at all! Put me on mute. I’ll still be here ranting about tax refund shaming when you get back. ❤️

It’s been 73 days since I’ve been back in America. That’s 73 days of reverse culture shock. 🙇🏾‍♀️ And now of course, I’m trying to get used to this pandemic life like everyone else. 😖 . . . I found out that my university was cancelling the spring semester at the beginning of February. I immediately started opening my availability with the online companies I was still contracted with. I’m so glad I discovered the firemovement and multiple streams of income before I moved abroad. It took about 2.5 months but I’ve finally found my groove. I do wish I had more hours in a day to focus on my own studies. But, having a consistent work schedule is really helping me be more consistent on my health journey. . . . I don’t know when this will be over, but I know once I start working outside my home again, I will really have to be protective of my time. It’s so easy to chase 💵 when you’re an independent contractor. But, I’m much more familiar with my habits and my triggers now. ❤️🧡💛💚💙🧠🍽💃🏾 . . .workfromhome onlineeslteacher sidehustles multiplestreamsofincome thankgodfortheinternet healthyroutine healthjouney weightossjourney waterfirst beachbodynutrition

Lots of love everyone!

This statement bothers me for 2 reasons: 1. It’s inaccurate (and uneducated) 2. It’s spreading fear & negative sentiment to investors, which can cause them to unnecessarily change their investment strategy & delay progress toward their goals. If you look very closely you’ll see that “lowering interest rates” is only one line item on a sizable list. So the next time you hear a person say “the Fed is out of ammo” I want you to show them this list & realize they’re probably just recycling some trendy phrase they heard on Twitter & may not fully understand what they’re talking about. • •investing stocks stockmarket moneytips investments investingtips investing101 kcmo moneymanagement  financialfreedom budget personalfinance debtfreecommunity debtfreejourney financialindependence firecommunity firemovement financetips finances financememes bitcoin financialgoals frugalliving frugal kansascity investmentstrategies etf 401k federalreserve financialeducation

What would you do if money didn’t matter? If you won that “Win for Life” lottery game where you got a check every week and could pay your bills and generally afford a pretty decent lifestyle without working? . How would you spend your days? What would you do for the next 5-10 years? . Now imagine that instead of winning the lottery, you saved yourself a “life fund”? Every paycheck, you set money aside for the life of your dreams. A few years from now you have a real chunk of change that will allow you to take the leap and make a career shift, or buy that course that will give you the skills you need to follow your dreams, fund that side hustle or take a year off to travel the world. . Saving for saving’s sake can be tough. If you don’t know what you are saving for, it can be hard to say no to spending. But if you know what you are building, it’s easy. 🔥 Highly controversial post ahead 🔥 There's been some buzz in the personal finance community about the future of the FIRE movement. I think the naysayers are right -- I don't think FIRE is actually the answer after all... The vast majority of people interested in FIRE are aspirational. In their current lifestyle, it's not mathematically possible to reach early retirement. For most people, they don't have a mindset to pursue FIRE. I've shared before how I significantly downsized my lifestyle moving from a studio apartment in DC and driving an Audi to leaving my job, selling my car, and moving back home with my parents. Those decisions didn't happen overnight. I only got to a point where I could make those decisions once I entered myself into a one-on-one life coaching program that RADICALLY changed my life. I had to spend YEARS going in the wrong direction in order to FINALLY start going in the wrong direction. Are you pursuing FIRE? As seen in our latest newsletter (link in bio)... This article from CNBC was written over a week prior to the passing of the stimulus package, but contains some very relevant advice on options for making ends meet if you’re still struggling after receiving your $1,200 (or less) from the Government. Note the “80% of Americans living paycheck to paycheck” and the significant number of households who “say it would be difficult to cover an unexpected $400 expense” – sounds like an issue that needs addressing!

I believe quiet time, meditation, and isolation can bring about great ideas. However when we try to look too hard for inspiration to fall from the sky we waste valuable TIME that we could be using for real action. I wished for years my income would improve and thought of thousand ways to try and make money. I became frustrated at myself and my financial situation. It wasn’t until I started reading giants like John Bogle, Robert Kiyosaki, and Gary Keller that ideas turned into inspiration and game changing action plans. Within a year my net worth drastically improved & as a result I am happier, healthier and more financially secure. I continue to listen read and discuss with people that have been there before. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Most ideas we are coming up with here have already been thought of by other Trail Blazers so forgive yourself if you don’t come up with the next Microsoft. Instead, read about Bill Gates and find inspiration. You may just find your next great idea within another. Read, listen, learn, and take action. 🤟. That being said. 🔥 PLAYING WITH FIRE 🔥 ➖ Last night I was in a bit of a funk with work stress and decided to use my splurge to rent @playwithfireco on @itunes. I’m so glad I did because I’ve been wanting to watch this movie for AGES! I really hope this movie gets picked up soon on @netflix because I just know so many people will have A-HA moments! ➖ The movie really beautifully displayed the struggles of maintaining relationships and the topic of “time” and “sacrifice” on our FI journeys. Something that often crosses my mind is how I feel I’m being too strict on myself and not being “present” enough to enjoy life to the fullest as I’m CONSTANTLY looking for ways to continually cut back expenses/boost income. I don’t want to wish my life away or hope the journey would “hurry up” to get to FI. It’s something I’m still adjusting to, daily. This next 6 months is going to be really trying on us but on the flip side, I know I will never allow myself to make choices I will regret e.g missing an event or holiday. I just need to be mindful and always stay true to what’s important. ➖ Have you seen it yet?movie documentary firemovement FI

On the most recent podcast episode, I talk about negotiating debt. Now is a great time to do the following if you are on your way to debtfreedom: 1️⃣ Get organized. Know what you owe, who you owe, why you owe it and whether it is accurate. 2️⃣ To ensure accuracy, ask for a copy of all of your transactions or that they explain the charges. This is particularly important if your account has already been sent to Collections. 3️⃣ Call your Credit Card Customer Service and ask if they are running any specials such as 0% offers for a limited time. You may have to transfer your account (within the same card company). If they are not, that’s okay. You can still ask that your interest rate lowered. (Tip: open a case on your file and a decision will be made within 5 business days.) 4️⃣ If your job has been impacted during this time, ask what is the Garnishment policy. If your account has already gone to Garnishment, be sure to Google “Garnishment Exceptions” and your state. Many states have a Head or Household exception which means that if you are the head of your household and especially if you are the only person bringing income, then garnishment will be waived. ▫️ ▫️ Let’s survive the global pandemic and come out stronger. 💛

Trying to feel zen rn like... 🌊🧘‍♀️ . Unfortunately, there’s a lot that’s beyond our control atm. And most of us aren’t feeling particularly zen. It’s scary times. . People are getting furloughed and laid off ⬅️↗️↘️➡️. We’re realizing now more than ever how risky it is to rely 100% on a steady job, no matter how safe that job feels. . And we’re not sure how long this going to last. . But we can only worry about the things we can control. . Taking little 👣 can very much help us to feel IN control. . I’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback from those of you who downloaded my 💵 worksheet (linkinbio). Getting a handle on where your money goes can feel hugely calming in uncertain economic times. . Once you’ve completed the worksheet, I challenge you to take it a step further and cut one or two small expenses. Maybe cancel a subscription or two. . If you are feeling extra proactive, set up a regular automatic transfer in the amount you are saving to a high yield savings account. The amount isn’t important. Even if you are starting with only $1 at a time, being proactive with your finances can go a long way towards feeling more in control. . . .control clarity purpose highyieldsavingsaccount onesmallstep zen momentofzen payyourselffirst putyourselffirst itsthesmallthings howtoadult personalfinance debtfree debtfreecommunity firecommunity focusonthefuture dreamlife keeplookingahead debtfreeliving daveramsey financialindependenceretireearly financialpeace saveearlyandoften earlyandoften financialindependence financialpeace firemovement babysteps daveramseybabysteps
