I've been a stress ball this week, researching and wondering what will come. Meanwhile, Heli keeps doing her thing. When she's stressed, her behavior change definitely shows, but every day I am grateful. Her Valentine's photo from daycare is a sweet reminder of her resilience and joy. ⠀
We took a break from normal training this week. Instead, Heli went to daycare and played with friends and decompressed. I love watching daycare videos from @thedogmotherllc, who does a fantastic job taking care of Heli, even when she's annoying the crap out of some poor dog. At home, we do relationship building where I feed Heli each time she bumps me with her nose, and she has a lot of fun with that! Through shaping, she has also learned to rest her chin on me for food. ⠀
Going forward, I will need to be more careful about training. We have been focusing on Heli's confidence, recall, and leash skills. But now that I know that her anxiety can worsen around a seizure that I might not see, I'll have to judge when to push Heli versus when to take a step back. Progress doesn't have to be linear.
